Down on the Kenai (Homer, AK)

Just wanted to start with the picture below.  This is the picture of our back yard today.  Eat your heart out Guys.

Back Window - Homer SS (1 of 1)

After leaving Anchorage we pointed the RV south down the Kenai Peninsula through some of the most breathtaking scenery yet.  Every where we looked it was, OOH look at that, look at that, OMG see that!!!  Even though it was cloudy and overcast, it added to the scene.  All the pictures do not due the grandeur of the views justice.

On a stop along the highway, the train stopped and I got a few pictures.  The engineer even waved.  Dave, this is for you.

We finally setup camp in the town of Kenai at the local Walmart, along with several other campers.  The next morning, July 4th,  we pulled into the Kenai Visitors Center and parked the camper.  We then walked to the main drag of the town to see a good old, small town, 4th of July parade.  All the local Fire companies were there, blowing their horns. Along with every local politician, business and community organization.  It was a great example of small town USA.  We met a great local couple with their two children, and had a great time.

The next day we stayed at a Fred Meyer parking lot.  Fred Meyer is like Walmart, but better for RVs.  They have a special place set aside for RVs with a dump station and a place to take on fresh water.  This morning we left Fred Meyer and stopped at the “Moose is Loose” Bakery.  I will let you know how good it is later, after diner.

We are now sitting in a camp site overlooking the Cook inlet in Homer.  The views are not to be believed,  Homer is the Halibut Capital.  People come here from all over the country to go Halibut fishing.  We toured the town, which consist of  restaurants, fishing and flying charter tours, and art shops full of things for tourists.

Right now we are listing to the rain on the roof waiting to have the Apple Fritter we bought at the “Moose is Loose”.  The coffee is almost ready so see you later.

Live is good on the Roan Road…
